Wie opens with 68 in Germany

Munich, Germany (Sports Network) - Michelle Wie birdied three of her first five holes and shot a four-under 68 in the first round of the German Open on Thursday.

Playing the Ladies European Tour for the first time, the 18-year-old Wie was tied for seventh place, four shots off the lead held by Nina Reis.

"I felt like I played really well, but I felt like I left a couple out there as well," said Wie.

Now a student at Stanford, Wie has played just two events on the LPGA Tour this season, tying for 72nd place at the Fields Open in her native Hawaii and missing the cut at the Michelob Ultra Open earlier this month.

Wie missed four cuts in the seven tournaments she finished last year, when a wrist injury forced her to withdraw from two events. Her 68 on Thursday marked her lowest round in competition this year.

"I'm still in the rehab process, just really building up to what I had before," said Wie. "It's definitely on the right track. I don't feel like I'm holding on."
