Avery released from hospital

New York, NY (Sports Network) - New York Rangers left wing Sean Avery was released from the hospital on Sunday, five days after suffering a lacerated spleen.

The pesky winger was sent to the hospital on Tuesday shortly after a 5-3 loss against the Pittsburgh Penguins in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference finals.

He missed the final three games of the series with New York getting knocked out thanks to a 3-2 win in overtime by Pittsburgh in Game 5 on Sunday. He is expected to make a full recovery in the offseason.

Avery had four goals with three assists for seven points in eight games this playoff season.

The 28-year-old Avery is best known for his antagonistic style of play, which draws the ire of opponents. His faceguarding of New Jersey Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur in Game 3 of the first round of the playoffs forced the NHL to revise its unsportsmanlike conduct penalty rule.
