Blackhawks D Wisniewski needs knee surgery

Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - The Chicago Blackhawks announced Thursday that defenseman James Wisniewski has torn his anterior cruciate ligament and will require surgery.

Blackhawks head team physician Dr. Michael Terry of the University of Chicago Medical Center released a statement Thursday saying that the 24-year-old blueliner will undergo surgery this week, and should be able to return during the 2008-09 season.

Wisniewski, a fifth-round selection in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, tallied 26 points -- 7 goals and 19 assists -- in 68 games with the Blackhawks last season. In three seasons in Chicago, he has scored 11 goals and doled out 32 assists for 43 points in 137 games.
