As per club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Since making his debut with the Flames at the start of the 2005 season, the hard-hitting defenseman has appeared in 214 games and has 44 goals along with 88 assists along with 293 penalty minutes.
"I'm excited about the prospect of playing another six years in Calgary," said
Phaneuf. "In fact, I never thought I would be playing anywhere else. I am

the job at hand - making and advancing in the playoffs this year and for years

The Edmonton, Alberta native was Calgary's 1st round pick in the 2003 draft and has been named to the last two All-Star games, including being named a starter in the recent All-Star game in Atlanta.
