Canucks reel in D Baumgartner for third tryVancouver, BC (Sports Network) - The Vancouver Canucks brought back defenseman Nolan Baumgartner on undisclosed terms Wednesday. The 32-year-old journeyman backliner did not play in the NHL last season, but spent 13 games between the Flyers and Stars in 2006-07, collecting three assists.
Baumgartner had his best campaign in 2005-06 with the Canucks, posting five
goals and 34 assists with a plus-11 rating in 70 games. Over 131 contests
stretching back to the 1995-96 season with Washington, Chicago, Vancouver,
Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Dallas, he has picked up six goals and 45 points. The Calgary native briefly spent the 2002-03 season playing for the Canucks, then after a short stint with the Penguins in 2003-04, came back to Vancouver before the Flyers acquired him prior to the 2006-07 season. His presence is expected to add depth and security on the defense after the untimely passing of Luc Bourdon earlier in the off-season. In addition, the club signed forward Alexandre Bolduc. The 23-year-old Montreal native tallied 18 goals and 37 points for the AHL's Manitoba Moose last year.
