Coyotes sign coach Samuelsson to extension

Glendale, AZ (Sports Network) - The Phoenix Coyotes inked associate coach Ulf Samuelsson to a contract extension on Tuesday.

Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Samuelsson is entering his fourth season as an associate coach with the franchise. He moved up to the NHL in 2006 after serving as an assistant with the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League.

The native of Sweden spent 17 seasons in the league, with a reputation as a punishing defender. He racked up 57 goals, 332 points and 2,453 penalty minutes over 1,080 games with five teams.

Phoenix begins its 2008-09 regular season on October 11 by hosting the Columbus Blue Jackets.
