Kent Huskins and Rob Niedermayer scored for the Ducks, who have dropped their
first four games of the season for the first time since they started with five
straight losses to start the 2003-04 campaign. Jonas Hiller halted 25-of-28
shots in defeat. The Oilers took the lead for good early in the final frame. Erik Cole set up Visnovsky for a one-timer from the right point 2:41 into the third. The puck found its way through defenders and into the net for a 3-2 Edmonton cushion. Denis Grebeshkov lifted the puck into the zone from the blue line and it dropped in right by the goal with Horcoff positioned perfectly to knock home the rebound, giving Edmonton a 1-0 lead at the 4:20 mark of the first period. Huskins answered with a slapper just over two minutes later to knot the contest up, 1-1. While skating in, Huskins blasted a shot from the left circle that found its way into the net via the top shelf. After a scuffle by the right circle, Niedermayer came away with the puck and skated towards the slot before snapping a wrist shot into the back of the net for a 2-1 Anaheim advantage at the 4:10 mark of the middle stanza. Souray answered with a wrister of his own, off of passes from Robert Nilsson and Andrew Cogliano, with 1:37 left in the second to tie the game, 2-2.
