Flyers D Coburn doubtful for Game 3

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Braydon Coburn is doubtful for Game 3 of Eastern Conference finals against Pittsburgh.

Coburn left in the first period of his team's 4-2 loss to Pittsburgh in Game 2 on Sunday, after a puck hit him in the face.

Just 1:51 into the game, a blast from the point in Philadelphia's end ramped off the stick of Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin and into the left side of Coburn's head.

The Flyers defenseman went down immediately with his gloves in front of his face, and a few small puddles of blood gathered on the ice. Coburn, though, was able to leave the ice under his own power and did not return.

On Monday, Philadelphia general manager Paul Holmgren stated that there were no fractures and that the defenseman is doing better, but that the eye is swollen shut.

"Last night our doctors who were at the game thought he was fine, but we just wanted him to get checked out by an actual ophthalmologist," said Holmgren. "Assuming there are no issues there, we'll just wait for the swelling to go down. I would say for the game tomorrow, he's probably doubtful."

Philadelphia is already without star defenseman Kimmo Timonen, who will miss the entire series after being diagnosed with a blood clot in his left leg.

The Flyers trail the best-of-seven series, 2-0, with Game 3 set for Tuesday in Philadelphia.
