Flyers center Briere out with knee injuryPhiladelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Philadelphia Flyers center Daniel Briere missed Friday night's pivotal showdown against the New Jersey Devils with a knee injury. Briere took a nasty knee-to-knee hit from Pittsburgh's Jarkko Ruutu during Wednesday's 4-2 loss to the Penguins. Flyers mananger Paul Holmgren called it a "lower body injury" and said an MRI wasn't necessary.
Briere has 31 goals and 72 points thus far. The Flyers entered the night as the ninth seed in the Eastern Conference standings with 91 points and two games remaining. They must win out against New Jersey and Pittsburgh on Sunday to make the playoffs.
