Flyers waive Dowd, FitzpatrickPhiladelphia, PA (Sports Network) - The Philadelphia Flyers placed forward Jim Dowd and defenseman Rory Fitzpatrick on waivers Thursday. Dowd, a 39-year-old journeyman who was signed in the off-season as a free- agent, posted just two goals in 30 games for Philadelphia. The native of Brick, New Jersey has compiled 68 goals and 231 points over 685 games with 10 teams in 16 NHL seasons.
Fitzpatrick picked up one assist in 19 games as a spare defenseman this year
for the Flyers, and was saddled with a team-worst minus-12. The 32-year-old,
who spent last season with Vancouver, has 10 goals and 35 points in 287 career
games with six clubs. In a related move, the Flyers recalled forward Stefan Ruzicka from the Philadelphia Phantoms of the AHL.
