Getzlaf, Ducks top Coyotes in shootout

Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Ryan Getzlaf recorded the game-winner in the fourth round of the shootout, as Anaheim edged Phoenix, 3-2, in the season finale for both teams at Honda Center.

With the shootout tied at two goals apiece, Getzlaf stickhandled in close and slid a backhander through the pads of Ilya Bryzgalov. Daniel Carcillo could have extended the extra session, but Jonas Hiller turned away his forehand shot to end the game.

Chris Kunitz and Bobby Ryan scored in regulation for the Ducks, who finished the season with five wins in their last six games.

The defending Stanley Cup champions completed the year as the fourth seed in the Western Conference at 47-27-8 for 102 points and earned home-ice advantage in their first-round playoff series against division-rival Dallas. Anaheim begins its first-round series with Dallas on Thursday.

Hiller stopped 32 shots in regulation for his 10th win of the season.

Carcillo hit the net twice for the Coyotes, who ended the season with four losses in their last five. Phoenix completed their regular-season slate at 38-37-7, a 16-point improvement from last year.

Bryzgalov took the loss despite a 41-save performance.

Carcillo notched a power-play goal to give Phoenix a 1-0 edge with 4:49 left the second period. The score was notable since Kyle Turris notched his first NHL point in his third pro game with a primary assist.

The Coyotes went up 2-0 on Carcillo's second of the contest exactly four minutes into the third, but Kunitz cut the Ducks deficit in half with 7:01 left in regulation.

Ryan notched the tying goal 43 seconds later as his floating shot through traffic in the right circle caromed off Keith Ballard's back and Bryzgalov's shoulder before hitting the net.

Game Notes

The Coyotes won five of the eight meetings this season...Anaheim improved to 8-7 in shootouts, while Phoenix fell to 5-6...Only two infractions were whistled in the game, both to the Ducks...The last time the Coyotes franchise did not have penalty in a game was December 30, 1981 when the Winnipeg Jets accomplished the feat against the Hartford Whalers.
