Horcoff, Garon lead Oilers over Isles

Edmonton, AB (Sports Network) - Shawn Horcoff had a goal and assist, and Mathieu Garon recorded his third shutout of the season, as the Edmonton Oilers beat the New York Islanders, 4-0, at Rexall Place.

Garon stopped all 34 shots he faced for the 13th shutout of his career, as the Oilers have won two straight overall. Ales Hemsky and Jarret Stoll also had a goal and assist each for Edmonton, which won just its eighth game in regulation this season.

Eleven of the Oilers' 19 wins have come in shootouts or overtime, and their last regulation win came on December 2 against Anaheim -- also a 4-0 finish.

Rick DiPietro turned away 29-of-33 shots for New York, which lost its third straight.

After a scoreless first period in which the teams combined for 22 shots, Hemsky got the Oilers on the board shortly into the middle frame.

Hemsky skated to the inner right circle, where he blasted a shot through defenseman Brendan Witt and past DiPietro, 1:11 into the stanza.

A little over five minutes later, Hemsky had the puck again, but this time dished a backhanded centering pass as he skated through the left circle. Horcoff was there, and one-timed the disc through DiPietro to give Edmonton a 2-0 lead.

It was his team-leading 18th goal of the season, and the 100th of his career.

Marty Reasoner added a third Oilers goal at the 11:22 mark, though Edmonton only tallied eight shots on goal in the period.

Garon was perfect for the rest of the second, and saved all 11 shots he faced in the third period. Stoll scored with 3:51 left to ice the game.
