Hossa off to Hockeytown

Detroit, MI (Sports Network) - The Detroit Red Wings have apparently bolstered their roster in attempt to make another run at the Stanley Cup, as superstar right wing Marian Hossa will join the champions for the 2008-09 season.

According to a report on the club's website, Hossa signed a one-year deal with the Red Wings. The Detroit Free Press reports the contract to be worth $7.4 million.

Hossa split last season with Atlanta and Pittsburgh and was among the most sought-after free agents on this summer's market. He was the biggest trade commodity at last year's deadline and the Penguins acquired him from the Thrashers as part of a six-player swap.

The 29-year-old native of Slovakia helped the Penguins to the Stanley Cup Finals, where the ride ended with a six-game loss to the Red Wings.

Hossa posted 12 goals and 14 assists in 20 playoff games this past spring after notching a combined 29 goals and 37 assists for 66 points in 82 games for the Thrashers and Penguins during the regular season.

Ottawa selected Hossa with the 12th overall pick of the 1997 draft and he joined the club that season, appearing in seven games. After seven seasons with the Senators, he was dealt to Atlanta in an August 2005 trade that sent Dany Heatley to Ottawa.

In 701 regular-season games, Hossa has collected 299 goals with 349 assists for 648 points. He has added 25 goals and 36 assists for 61 points in 75 playoff games.
