Malkin replaces injured Crosby in All-Star gamePittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - Pittsburgh Penguins center Evgeni Malkin will replace injured teammate Sidney Crosby for the Eastern Conference in the upcoming NHL All-Star Game. Malkin, who leads the Penguins with 26 goals and nine power play goals, ranks second on the team with 56 points in 48 games played.
"I am honored to be selected to the All-Star Game and have the opportunity to
play with some of the best players in the NHL," stated Malkin. "It is
unfortunate that Sidney will not be able to participate, however, I look
forward to playing in the game and representing the Penguins organization." The Penguins placed the dynamic Crosby on injured reserve Monday and he is expected to miss the next six to eight weeks with a high ankle sprain. Crosby has 20 goals and 43 assists for 63 points in 46 games this season. He was chosen as a starter for the Eastern Conference, garnering the most votes in fan balloting for the second straight year.
