Oilers acquire Visnovsky from Kings

Edmonton, AB (Sports Network) - The Edmonton Oilers acquired defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky from the Los Angeles Kings Sunday in exchange for defenseman Matt Greene and forward Jarret Stoll.

The 31-year-old Visnovsky, drafted in the fourth round by the Kings in 2000, had eight goals and 33 assists while playing in all 82 games last season. He's played in 499 games over seven seasons, all with the Kings and has 70 goals and 209 assists.

Visnovsky is the only defenseman to ever lead the Kings in scoring for a season after recording a career-high 67 points with the Kings in 2005-06.

"It's never easy to give up a player of Lubo's caliber, but for the direction of this franchise, this exchange allows us to add two players who fit the long-term vision for this team," Kings general manager Dean Lombardi said. "We appreciate Lubo's service and outstanding play these last seven years in Los Angeles. He was not only a great player for us, but a class act."

The 26-year-old Stoll had 14 goals and 36 assists in 81 games last season, while the 25-year-old Greene tallied an assist in 46 games, missing a good portion of the season due to an ankle injury.
