Penguins sign G Fleury to seven-year extension

Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - The Pittsburgh Penguins signed goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury to a seven-year contract extension on Thursday.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Thursday that the deal is worth $35 million.

"At a young age, Marc-Andre has established himself as one of the elite goaltenders in the game," said general manager Ray Shero. "He is coming off a tremendous performance in the playoffs and he was one of the main reasons we reached the Stanley Cup Final. It's great news for the Penguins organization and our fans to continue to sign our core group of young players."

Fleury went 19-10-2 last season with a career-best 2.33 goals against average for the Eastern Conference champions. He missed 35 games with a high ankle sprain, and came back stronger than ever, registering a 10-2-1 record in 14 games following his return, while posting a 1.53 goals against average, a .947 save percentage, and two shutouts.

The 23-year-old went 14-6 with a 1.97 GAA in the Stanley Cup playoffs, as the Penguins made their first appearance in the Finals since 1992. The Sorel, Quebec native was originally drafted first overall by the Penguins in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, and is 76-67-2-11 with a 2.95 GAA and a .905 save percentage in four seasons with Pittsburgh.

The Post-Gazette also reported Thursday that the Pens had inked veteran winger Miroslav Satan to a one-year $3.5 million deal. Satan, 33, scored 16 goals and had 25 assists in 80 games last season with the Islanders. The Topolcany, Slovakia native has scored 337 goals and compiled 349 assists in 12 seasons with the Oilers, Sabres, and Islanders.
