Rangers bring back G Valiquette

New York, NY (Sports Network) - The New York Rangers agreed to terms with free agent goaltender Stephen Valiquette, the team announced Tuesday.

Valiquette appeared in a career-high 13 games for the Rangers last season, leading to a 5-3-3 mark while carrying a 2.19 goals-against average. The veteran of five NHL seasons recorded back-to-back shutouts against Philadelphia January 31 and February 9.

The 30-year-old Etobicoke, Ontario, native notched several key victories for the Rangers last season in spelling starter Henrik Lundqvist, including a career-high shutout streak of 124:58 from January 3 to February 10.

The netminder dressed as Lundqvist's backup in all 10 of the Rangers post- season contests.
