Red Wings sign Osgood to three-year contract extension

Detroit, MI (Sports Network) - The Detroit Red Wings announced on Wednesday that they have signed goaltender Chris Osgood to a three-year contract extension. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Osgood is in his 15th NHL season, and his 11th in Detroit. Osgood returned to Detroit two seasons ago after spending time with the New York Islanders and St. Louis Blues. He is 50-11-2 in the two plus seasons since he returned to the Motor City.

This season Osgood is 19-2-1 and leads all NHL goalies with a 1.68 goals- against average, and is tied for the lead with a .932 save percentage.

Osgood, 35, was the backup goalie to Mike Vernon on the Red Wings 1997 championship team, before taking over the starting role in 1998 and guiding Detroit to its second straight title.

The veteran netminder has played in 644 career games, posting a record of 355-188-66 with 45 shutouts and a 2.42 GAA.
