Sakic activated from IR

Edmonton, AB (Sports Network) - The Colorado Avalanche activated captain Joe Sakic from the injured reserve list on Sunday.

The center underwent hernia surgery on December 28 and has missed a total of 38 games due to the ailment, the most action he has ever missed during his illustrious NHL career.

Prior to the injury, Sakic had played in 232 consecutive games.

In 24 games this season, Sakic has registered seven goals and 15 assists.

To make room for Sakic, who ranks eighth on the NHL's all-time scoring list, the club reassigned forward T.J. Hensick to Lake Erie of the American Hockey League.
