Thrashers sign D Enstrom to four-year extension

Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - The Atlanta Thrashers signed defenseman Tobias Enstrom to a four-year contract extension, the team announced on Wednesday.

The deal will begin at the start of the 2009-10 season.

Enstrom appeared in all 82 games during his rookie season in the 2007-08 campaign and totaled five goals and 33 assists on his way to being named to the NHL All-Rookie Team. He also represented the Thrashers at the 2008 NHL YoungStars game.

The 23-year-old Swede set a franchise record for most assists by a defenseman and tied a franchise mark for most points by a defenseman. He ranked second among Eastern Conference rookies in assists and third in points.
