Casino Drive scratched from BelmontElmont, NY (Sports Network) - Things just got a little easier for Big Brown. Casino Drive was scratched from the Belmont Stakes early Saturday morning because of a stone bruise in his left hind hoof, increasing Big Brown's chances of becoming the first Triple Crown winner since Affirmed in 1978.
Set to break from post five, Casino Drive had been the early second choice
behind Big Brown and the only other undefeated horse in the field besides the
Triple Crown favorite. Nobutaka Tada, the racing manager for Casino Drive owner Hidetoshi Yamamoto, said Friday that they were not thinking of scratching the horse. But problems developed Saturday morning for the Peter Pan Stakes winner.
