McLaughlin loses second top horse

Saratoga Springs, NY (Sports Network) - Trainer Kiaran McLaughlin announced on Thursday that Flashy Bull, winner of the Stephen Foster Handicap, has been retired from racing. The four-year-old has a broken bone in his left ankle.

According to McLaughlin, Flashy Bull may have suffered the injury during the running of the Whitney Handicap here on July 28. He finished seventh in the race won by Lawyer Ron.

Owned by West Point Stable, Flashy Bull earned $844,313 in his career with five wins in 19 starts. This year he also won the William Schaefer Handicap at Pimlico on Preakness Stakes Day.

The retirement of Flashy Bull comes on the heels of the retirement of Invasor. McLaughlin trained Invasor to Horse of the Year honors in 2006 and sent out the five-year-old to win the Dubai World Cup this year.

Future plans for Flashy Bull as a stallion have not been announced.
