Mutuel Field and Pyro finish atop Kentucky Derby Future Pool


Louisville, KY (Sports Network) - The mutuel field and recent stakes winner Pyro finished as the top two favorites at the close of betting Sunday night for the first of three Kentucky Derby Future Wagers. The mutuel field closed as the 3-1 favorite and Pyro was 5-1 in the pool of 24 betting interests.

Pyro, runner-up in the 2007 Breeders' Cup Juvenile, won the Risen Star Stakes on Saturday at the Fair Grounds in New Orleans. Last year's champion two-year- old War Pass was third at 6-1. Pyro and War Pass were both 12-1 in the morning-line as was Court Vision. Court Vision closed at 15-1.

The mutuel field was the 5-2 favorite as set by handicapper Mike Battaglia. Risen Star runner-up Z Fortune finished at 37-1 and Crown of Thorns, winner of the Robert Lewis Stakes, was 18-1.

A total of $439,379 was wagered during the three day period.
