Southwind Lynx captures Art Rooney Pace

Yonkers, NY (Sports Network) - One of Yonkers Raceway's premier events, the Art Rooney Pace, returned to its home track for the first time since 2003 on Saturday night. With a purse of $1 million, Southwind Lynx made a move from the back of the field to win the one mile race.

The Art Rooney returned to Yonkers Raceway for the first time since No Pan Intended won the race in 2003. The race was not conducted in 2004 and 2005, and last year's race was contested at Monticello in November when Gimmebackmybullets picked up the victory.

"We've envisioned the day when our biggest races would be worth this type of money," Yonkers general manager Bob Galterio said. "We're ecstatic to have the Rooney as the first of what we anticipate to be many million dollar events, making Yonkers Raceway once again the premier harness racing facility in North America."

Southwind Lynx was driven by Tim Tetrick from post 6. The horse was coupled as an entry with Mattdultery. Both three-year-olds are trained by George Teague, Jr.

Tetrick kept his drive in sixth place through most of the race as Tivoli Hanover was the primary pacesetter. Southwind Lynx began his drive at the top of the stretch. He powered down the middle of the track on his way to a half- length win over Forensic Z Tam with his entrymate, Home Bed Advantage, a half- length back in third.

The time for the Art Rooney Pace was 1:52 3/5.

Completing the order of finish was Mattdultery, Tivoli Hanover, Glass Pack, Takeshigemichi and Poker Hat.

Southwind Lynx returned $6.40, $3.40 and $2.70. Forensic Z Tam paid $5.10 and $7.50, and Home Bed Advantage paid $5.10 and $7.50 to show.

Southwind Lynx had finished fourth in one of last week's elimination races.
