Amelia completes Palermo switchPalermo, Italy (Sports Network) - Goalkeeper Marco Amelia will remain in Serie A next season after officially joining Palermo from relegated Livorno. The Sicilian club paid $8.6 million to sign Italy's number two keeper following his return from Euro 2008 duty.
Amelia had been linked with moves to both Lazio and AC Milan this summer, but
has opted to join Palermo where he is expected to replace veteran Alberto
Fontana as number one choice. "Over the last few seasons, I have been so close to wearing this shirt on several occasions, but the signature didn't happen for whatever reason," he said. "When I chose to leave Livorno I didn't think about the possibility of playing in the Champions League or the UEFA Cup, I just wanted an environment where I could improve day after day."
