Atletico Madrid signs Czech defender Ujfalusi

Madrid, Spain (Sports Network) - Atletico Madrid signed Czech Republic captain and defender Tomas Ujfalusi to a three-year contract on Tuesday.

Ujfalusi, 30, played the last four seasons at Fiorentina in Italy's Serie A. He was the Czech Republic's captain at the Euro 2008 finals.

Ujfalusi joins Netherlands defender John Heitinga as new signings for Atletico, which finished fourth in Spain's La Liga last season to advance to Champions League qualifying.
