Atletico suffers Forlan injury blow

Madrid, Spain (Sports Network) - Atletico Madrid striker Diego Forlan is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after scans confirmed he has suffered a torn hamstring.

The Uruguay international limped out of their Champions League opening day 3-0 win over PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday evening.

His first-half withdrawal took the gloss of an impressive display from the Spanish club and Forlan is now likely to miss forthcoming games against the likes of Sevilla, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Villarreal in the league and Marseille and Liverpool in Europe.

"Forlan underwent medical tests on Wednesday morning under the supervision of the club's chief of medical services, doctor Jose Maria Villalon, who confirmed that the striker has suffered a torn muscle in his right hamstring," confirmed a club statement.

Forlan has already netted three times for the Rojiblancos this season.
