Balboa joins Benfica from Real Madrid

Lisbon, Portugal (Sports Network) - Real Madrid have allowed Javier Balboa to join Portuguese club Benfica on a permanent basis.

The 23-year-old product of the youth system at the Santiago Bernabeu will renew acquaintances with new Benfica and former Real Madrid Under-20 coach Quique Sanchez Flores.

The attacking midfielder made ten first-team appearances and scored two goals for Real last season.

Balboa also won his first cap for Guinea during the 2007-08 campaign.

"Real Madrid and Benfica have reached an agreement for the transfer of Javier Balboa to the latter club," read a club statement.

"The club wishes the player all the best and thanks him his hard work and exceptional behavior."
