Brewers deal Gross to Tampa Bay; Gwynn recalledMilwaukee, WI (Sports Network) - The Milwaukee Brewers traded outfielder Gabe Gross to the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday, in exchange for pitcher Josh Butler. In an additional move, outfielder Tony Gwynn was recalled from a rehab assignment with Triple-A Nashville, and will be reinstated from the 15-day disabled list on Wednesday.
Gross was dealt after the Brewers' 9-8, 12-inning win on Tuesday. He scored
the winning run and went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles on the day, raising
his season average to .209. The 28-year-old was in his third season with Milwaukee. In five major league seasons with Toronto and the Brewers, he has a .243 average with 20 homers and 87 RBI. Butler was Tampa Bay's second-round pick in the 2006 MLB first-year player draft out of the University of San Diego. He will report to Single-A Brevard County. Gwynn was placed on the 15-day disabled list on April 10 with a strained left hamstring, and sent on assignment a week later. In three games this season, Gwynn is 4-for-7 with a double and a stolen base.
