Barca confirms Giovani will join TottenhamLondon, England (Sports Network) - Barcelona has announced that Tottenham has completed the signing of teenage Mexican forward Giovani dos Santos. The 19-year-old has agreed to a five-year deal at White Hart Lane, with Barca having a 20 percent sell-on clause if he leaves Spurs in the first two years of his contract, or 10 percent from that point on.
Spurs will pay an initial fee of nearly $12 million for Giovani, with another
$10 million payable dependent on his appearances for the north London club. Giovani's father, Zizinho, had earlier told Record: "It is an honor that a club as important as Tottenham want to sign Giovani. "Tottenham's ambitious plans have excited Giovani and he just wants to go there and help the team in any way he can. "It is obvious that leaving Barcelona is a risky decision, but with his qualities it appears that it could be the best option for him." The 19-year-old impressed at the Under-17 World Cup in 2005, but has been used sparingly by Barca, not making his first-team debut until September 2007. He went on to score four goals in 11 starts and 22 appearances from the substitute's bench for the Catalan giants in the season just ended. (Courtesy of sportbox.tv)
