Barca to play in New York, Chicago areas in August

New York, NY (Sports Network) - Major League Soccer announced FC Barcelona and its roster of international stars will play games this summer in Chicago and the New York area as part of their 2008 summer tour organized by MLS' marketing arm, Soccer United Marketing (SUM). The tour kicks off a five-year partnership between Barca and MLS.

The Spanish giant, whose honors include 18 La Liga trophies, a record-setting 24 Copa del Rey championships and two UEFA Champions League titles, will play two matches during the 2008 trip - on Aug. 3 vs. CD Guadalajara of Mexico at Chicago's Soldier Field and on Aug. 6 vs. the New York Red Bulls of MLS at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.

The Chicago Fire also announced on Friday that they will play Everton FC from England's Premier League on July 30 at Toyota Park. This is the second time the Fire have played a Premiership team as they hosted Derby County in '99 at Soldier Field.
