Barton admits Dabo assaultLondon, England (Sports Network) - Newcastle United midfielder Joey Barton has admitted to assaulting a former teammate in a training ground row. Barton was due to stand trial at Manchester's Minshull Street Crown Court over an alleged incident with former Manchester City teammate Ousmane Dabo on May 1 last year.
The 25-year-old, who left the Citizens for Newcastle United in a big money
deal last summer, had denied inflicting actual bodily harm on the Frenchman. However, he changed his plea shortly before the scheduled start of the trial and admitted one charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm to Dabo. Barton is no stranger to controversy following a career littered with disciplinary problems. Back in May, he was jailed for six months after admitting charges of assault and affray following an incident the previous December in Liverpool city centre. (Courtesy of sportbox.tv)
