Bellion fires Bordeaux into third placeBordeaux, France (Sports Network) - David Bellion scored the game-winning goal right before halftime as Bordeaux moved into third place in the Ligue 1 standings with a 2-1 win over Valenciennes at Parc Lescure on Saturday. An own goal by Bordeaux's Souleymane Diawara handed the visitors the lead in the 34th minute when Yacine Bezzaz of Valenciennes threw a shot towards goal that Diawara tried to deflect away. However, the Bordeaux defender ended up redirecting the ball into his own net.
The home side quickly answered as Bellion drew a penalty on David Ducourtioux
inside the area and Jussie stepped to the spot and deposited the ball into the
lower left corner of the net to tie the match. A corner kick right before the half then allowed Bordeaux to take the lead as the ball was lofted into the box and keeper Nicolas Penneteau misplayed the ball, allowing Bellion to knock home the go-ahead goal from close range. Valenciennes nearly leveled the match in the final 10 minutes, but Filip Sebo's effort from inside the box sailed safely over the crossbar. In other Ligue 1 play on Saturday, Strasbourg handled Lille 3-0, Sochaux beat Marseille 2-1 on two own goals, while Nancy played to a 0-0 draw with last-place Metz. Goals were not easy to come by in France as three other games ended scoreless as well. Monaco against Caen, St Etienne versus Auxerre, and Lorient against Nice all ended without a goal. On Sunday, league-leaders Lyon can increase their lead with a win against PSG, Toulouse visits Le Mans and Rennes travels to Lens.
