Benfica gets Reyes on loan from Atletico

Lisbon, Portugal (Sports Network) - Spain forward Jose Antonio Reyes has joined Benfica on a season-long loan deal from Atletico Madrid.

The 24-year-old former Sevilla and Arsenal winger struggled to make his mark at the Vicente Calderon last season, but failed to score in 29 games for Atletico.

Now Reyes has opted for a new challenge in Lisbon, with compatriot Quique Sanchez Flores now in charge at Benfica.

He told his new club's official website: "I come here with the ambition of being a champion. They have given me this chance and I want to make the most of it."

Reyes' move to Portugal includes an option for a permanent deal in a year's time if he impresses.
