Blackburn secures services of Robinson

Blackburn, England (Sports Network) - Blackburn Rovers have completed the $7 million signing of England goalkeeper Paul Robinson from Premier League rivals Tottenham.

The 28-year-old former Leeds United ace had fallen out of favor at White Hart Lane since the arrival of Spanish head coach Juande Ramos, who has recruited PSV Eindhoven's Heurelho Gomes already this summer.

Robinson's arrival at Ewood Park on a five-year contract comes as Rovers stalwart Brad Friedel makes a $4 million move to Aston Villa.

Beverley-born Robinson joined Spurs in the summer of 2004 from Leeds and went on to make 175 appearances for the north London club in all competitions, even managing to get on the scoresheet against Watford in March 2007.

He has won 41 caps for England to date, but has not featured since the 2-1 Euro 2008 qualifying defeat by Russia in Moscow in October of last year.

Robinson made 113 appearances for Leeds before he headed to the capital after the Yorkshiremen were relegated from the top-flight.
