Cavenaghi double moves Bordeaux to within four of LyonBordeaux, France (Sports Network) - Fernando Cavenaghi scored two second-half goals to lift Bordeaux to a 2-1 win over Caen at Parc Lescure on Sunday. The win moves Bordeaux to within four points of league-leaders Lyon, who were held to a 1-1 draw by Rennes on Saturday, with five games to play, forcing Lyon to battle later into the season than the club has become accustomed to in recent years.
A scoreless first half was followed by Cavenaghi taking over for Bordeaux and
putting his club ahead 1-0 in the 52nd minute. Wendel's free kick was turned
past Caen goalkeeper Vincent Plante by Cavenaghi, and he stepped to the spot
and put his team up two goals in the 77th minute. Bordeaux's Johan Micoud hit the crossbar with a dipping shot, but Caen's Nicolas Seube was called for handling the ball inside his own box as he struck the rebound with his hand. Cavenaghi made no mistake with his spot kick as he sent the ball right down the middle before Caen's Jeremy Sorbon pulled a goal back in the 88th minute for the visitors with a volley from close range. Sunday's other contest saw PSG drop into the bottom three after a 3-2 loss to Nice. Bakari Kone scored twice for Nice and Honorato Campos Ederson bagged the game winner in the 86th minute.
