Chelsea's Terry wins red card appealLondon, England (Sports Network) - Chelsea defender John Terry is available to play in this weekend's crunch Premier League clash against Manchester United after winning his appeal Tuesday against the red card he was handed in a 3-1 win at Manchester City last weekend. The England captain was dismissed for serious foul play in the closing stages of the Eastlands clash when he brought down City striker Jo near the halfway line.
A statement on the FA's official website read: "At an Independent Regulatory
Commission hearing today, a claim for wrongful dismissal from Chelsea's John
Terry was upheld. "Terry was shown a red card for serious foul play during Chelsea's match against Manchester City on 13 September. As a result of today's hearing, Terry's three-match suspension has been withdrawn." Referee Mark Halsey had confirmed after the game that the defender's sending- off was for serious foul play rather than for a professional foul. If Terry's appeal had failed he would have also missed the Premier League game against Stoke City as well as the Carling Cup tie against Portsmouth. Terry's Chelsea colleague Frank Lampard had said after the game of the incident: "It's disappointing - I've never seen a player get sent off for a professional foul with two players behind him."
