Chivas USA signs defender Gargan

Carson, CA (Sports Network) - Chivas USA signed defender Dan Gargan, a three- year veteran of Major League Soccer, on Friday.

Gargan, 25, played 49 times - including 31 starts - for the Colorado Rapids from 2005-2007. Originally picked in the third round of the 2005 Supplemental Draft, Gargan recorded three assists with the Rapids.

"Dan is both young and has good experience in the league, and will bring depth to our squad, particularly on the right side," Chivas coach Preki said. "He's got a good mind for the game and we're happy to bring him into the team."

Gargan joins Chivas as a disabled list replacement for defender Alex Zotinca, who was placed on Chivas USA's disabled list after undergoing ACL surgery on his right knee.

In other news, Chivas USA midfielder Jorge Flores has been called into the United States Under-20 national team by coach Thomas Rongen for the team's upcoming trip to Manchester, England.
