Galindo, Bornstein undergo successful surgeries


Carson, CA (Sports Network) - Chivas USA forward Maykel Galindo successfully underwent sports hernia surgery and is expected to be out of action for six weeks. The surgery was performed on Wednesday by Dr. Richard Cattey at St. Mary's Ozaukee Hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

A native of Villa Clara, Cuba, Galindo enjoyed a breakout first season in Major League Soccer in 2007, scoring 12 goals and adding five assists in 28 regular season games for Chivas USA.

In other news, Chivas USA announced that U.S. International defender Jonathan Bornstein is expected back by early February following successful arthroscopic ankle surgery performed in late December. Bornstein's surgery, which removed scar tissue from his left ankle, was performed in Santa Monicaby Chivas USA team doctors Michael Gerhardt and Eric Giza.

Chivas USA opens camp in late January ahead of its fourth MLS campaign. The team kicks off its '08 MLS season on March 30 at FC Dallas before playing their home opener against Real Salt Lake on April 5 at The Home Depot Center.
