Hibernian names Paatelainen new coachEdinburgh, Scotland (Sports Network) - Scottish club Hibernian named ex-player Mixu Paatelainen its new coach Thursday. The 40-year-old Paatelainen, a former Finland international, left Finnish club TPS Turku and replaces John Collins, who quit Hibernian last month.
"Everyone knows of my great affection for this club, and I believe my desire
to see teams play exciting, attacking and intelligent football fits well with
the club's philosophy," Paatelainen said. Paatelainen, 40, appeared in 70 games for Finland and played at Hibernian from 1998-2001 and 2002-03. He also played for Aberdeen, Bolton, Dundee United, St. Johnstone, St. Mirren and Wolves. Paatelainen previously coached in Scotland with Cowdenbeath. "I am very happy to take up this opportunity," Paatelainen said. Hibernian (7-7-7) was in the top three in the standings earlier this year but is winless in eight in a row - including five losses - to plummet to eighth at the winter break. Hibernian opens the second half of the season Jan. 19 at Hearts.
