Hoops loan Burse to USL squadFrisco, TX (Sports Network) - FC Dallas completed a transaction which sends third-year goalkeeper Ray Burse Jr. on loan to the Portland Timbers of the United Soccer League's First Division for the 2008 season. Per the agreement, Burse may be recalled by FC Dallas at any time during the year. "We are fortunate to have three quality goalkeepers on our roster," FC Dallas head Steve Morrow said. "With Dario claiming the starting position, it was important for us to find consistent and quality games for Ray so he can continue developing through experience. Ray is a big part of our future, and playing competitively will have him more prepared to step in when we need him. Furthermore, we are pleased with the progress that (rookie 'keeper) Josh Lambo has made this preseason."
Burse, 23, was selected by Dallas in the third round of the '06 SuperDraft. He
served as the backup goalkeeper for 20 of the team's 32 games that year,
though did not see action. The Ohio State grad made his professional debut on
July 24 of last year in a 1-1 draw with Guadalajara (Mexico) during the '07
SuperLiga. He made his MLS debut on Aug. 4, earning his first career shutout
in a 1-0 win at Colorado. For the year, Burse started six regular season
games, one Open Cup, one SuperLiga, and came on as a substitute in the team's
final playoff game at Houston. In other FC Dallas news, Brazilian midfielder Andre Rocha received all the necessary paperwork and will assume a spot on the 18-man Senior Roster in time for Sunday's match against Chivas USA at Pizza Hut Park.
