Kanu helps Portsmouth clinch FA Cup

London, England (Sports Network) - Nwankwo Kanu's goal in the 37th minute was enough to give Portsmouth a 1-0 win over Cardiff in the FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium on Saturday.

Kanu's goal was the lone bright spot in an otherwise nondescript contest that saw Premier League side Pompey do enough to hold off its Championship opposition to clinch its first FA Cup title in 69 years and give them a place in the UEFA Cup next season.

Cardiff goalkeeper Peter Enckelman was partly responsible for Kanu's goal as he parried a low cross from John Utaka right into the path of Kanu, who was left with an easy finish from a few yards to get his team on the scoreboard.

Kanu wasted a few good opportunities that could have given a his side a bit more of a comfortable afternoon, but he did take one of those chances and it was enough to deny Cardiff its first FA Cup crown since 1927.
