Karlsruher's Eggimann to join Hannover

Hannover, Germany (Sports Network) - Hannover 96 have agreed to a deal to sign Switzerland international defender Mario Eggimann from Karlsruher next summer.

The 27-year-old has agreed a five-year contract with Hannover, with a fee of around $2 million sealing his switch.

"It was important for us to convince him of our concept and we are pleased we have managed to do that," Hannover sporting director Christian Hochstatter told the club's official website.

Eggimann has been with Karlsruhe since the summer of 2002 and has made nearly 200 appearances for the club.

"Mario can be a major figure as a player and a personality in the future of Hannover 96," Hannover coach Dieter Hecking told the club's website. "The signing of Mario is a strengthening of our squad. We want to build something long-term here in Hannover with Mario."
