Liverpool signs Brazilian goalkeeper Cavalieri

Liverpool, England (Sports Network) - Brazilian goalkeeper Diego Cavalieri is looking forward to challenging Pepe Reina for a starting spot in the Liverpool first team after completing his switch to Anfield from Palmeiras.

The 25-year-old has penned a four-year contract with the Reds and his arrival would seem to signal the departure of Scott Carson from Merseyside.

"I know it won't be easy to get into the team," Cavalieri told Liverpool's official website.

"I watched some Liverpool games in both the Premier League and Champions League last year and I know Pepe is a very good goalkeeper.

"But everyone has to fight for their place and I'm sure we will have a healthy rivalry."
