McGregor secures future with Gers

Glasgow, Scotland (Sports Network) - Goalkeeper Allan McGregor has agreed a new five-year contract with Rangers.

McGregor, 25, has progressed through the ranks from youth team level and is now the number one goalkeeper at the Ibrox club.

The Edinburgh-born keeper had been deemed surplus to requirements and placed on the transfer list under former boss Alex McLeish, but has been a virtual ever-present under current incumbent Walter Smith.

"I met the chairman a couple of weeks ago and I think he realized I always wanted to stay at the club, especially after breaking in to the team," he told the club's official website.

"I'm delighted with the five-year deal. It's good to get it settled and hopefully now I can just get on with pre-season."
