Milwaukee wins two matches to take over first

Milwaukee, WI (Sports Network) - Milwaukee used an own goal from New Jersey on Sunday to spark a 9-6 win and a two-win week that moved the Wave into first in the Major Indoor Soccer League.

With the match level at 2, New Jersey's Gary Brooks attempted to pass the ball back to goalie Tony Meola. But Meola was just out of the penalty area and lost his balance trying to run onto the pass.

The ball rolled into the empty net just 24 seconds into the third quarter, and Milwaukee added goals from Troy Dusosky and Anthony Maher in the following six minutes to put the game away.

New Jersey lost both of its games, also falling to Chicago on Saturday, 15-4.

Milwaukee opened the week with a 14-7 win Saturday over California, which also lost to Monterrey on Thursday 23-6. The Wave lead Detroit by one point.

Detroit dropped its lone match of the week, 15-13 to Philadelphia on Saturday.

Third-place Chicago opened the weekend with an 18-8 loss Friday to Baltimore, but bounced back for the win Saturday.

Baltimore followed its win over Chicago with a 25-13 victory Saturday against Orlando, which had its three-game winning streak snapped.

On Thursday, Detroit tries to gain on Milwaukee when it visits Monterrey. On Saturday, Milwaukee hosts Philadelphia and Baltimore visits Orlando.
