Nunez' game-winner lifts RSL over New England

Salt Lake City, UT (Sports Network) - Real Salt Lake's Tino Nunez made his first Major League Soccer goal count.

The rookie scored the game-winner in a 2-1 RSL victory over the league-leading New England Revolution on Saturday night at Rice-Eccles Stadium, keeping his team undefeated at home this season.

Nunez scored the winner just after the hour mark after a Javier Morales shot deflected off a defender. Nunez made no mistake on the rebound chance, firing the it past goalkeeper Matt Reis.

The goal came after Adam Cristman gave the Revolution the early lead just eight minutes in. After Reis punted the ball the length of the field, it bounced behind RSL defender Nate Borchers in the penalty area. After some miscommunication between Borchers and goalkeeper Nick Rimando, Cristman snuck in and headed the ball into the net.

Cristman's goal ended RSL's franchise-record 283-minute shutout streak.

RSL tied the score three minutes later when Morales fired a free kick into the Revs box, but New England defender Jay Heaps headed the ball into his own net for the own goal.

New England (8-4-3), which had its seven-game unbeaten streak snapped with the loss, will try to get back in the win column when it hosts Toronto FC next Saturday. RSL (5-5-4), which improved to 4-0-4 at home this season, will try to win one on the road at Kansas City the same day in its next league fixture.
