Oleguer leaves Barca to join Ajax

Barcelona, Spain (Sports Network) - Barcelona has agreed to let central defender Presas Oleguer move to Ajax on a three-year contract.

The 28-year-old is expected to be transferred for an initial $4.7 million with another $3.5 million to be paid if Ajax qualify for the Champions League in 2009-10, 2010-11 and 2011-12.

"Oleguer is eager to play football again, and is eager to do that with Ajax," said the Dutch club's technical director, Danny Blind.

"A loan deal was not an option for Barcelona, and when you sign a player for a big amount of money, you do not give him a one or two-year contract."

The defender has spent much of the last two seasons on the Camp Nou substitute's bench.
