PSV topples NAC to take over league lead

Eindhoven, Netherlands (Sports Network) - PSV Eindhoven moved to the top of the Eredivisie standings on Sunday with a 2-0 win over NAC at Philipsstadion, while previous leaders Feyenoord were held to a 1-1 draw by Heerenveen.

PSV got goals at the end of both halves as Danny Koevermans struck right before the halftime whistle, and Kenneth Perez scored his seventh goal of the year in the 90th minute to secure all three points for PSV, which is level on points with Feyenoord but owns the advantage in goal differential.

It looked like Feyenoord would also claim maximum points on Sunday as Andwele Slory put them ahead after 17 minutes, but a free kick from just outside the area by Heerenveen's Gerald Sibon curled into the back of the net, forcing the Rotterdam club to leave with a share of the points.

Ajax was also held to a draw as they had to settle for a 2-2 result against Venlo. Luis Suarez scored the lone goal of the first half for Ajax, but Venlo answered in the 57th through Rachid Ofrany. Klaas-Jan Huntelaar restored Ajax's lead in the 77th, but after Ajax defender George Ogararu was sent off in the 84th minute, Venlo grabbed a late equalizer as Sandro Calabro headed home the tying goal in the 89th minute.

Ajax now sit in third place, level on points with Groningen and one point clear of both Twente and Roda. Both of those sides recorded wins on Sunday as Twente downed Graafschap 2-0 and Roda held off Excelsior 2-1.

In other action in Holland on Sunday, Gretar Rafn Steinsson scored the lone goal in AZ Alkmaar's 1-0 win over Heracles, Utrecht earned a 2-2 draw at Vitesse, and Willem II climbed off the bottom of the table with a 3-0 triumph over NEC.
