Memphis shows no Love to Bruins; advances to title game

San Antonio, TX (Sports Network) - Chris Douglas-Roberts scored 28 points, as Memphis moved to the national title game with a 78-63 victory over UCLA at the Alamodome.

The Tigers (38-1), making just their third appearance in the Final Four, received 25 points from freshman guard Derrick Rose and will get another chance for their first NCAA Tournament championship when they play either Kansas or North Carolina, on Monday night.

Memphis' defense did head coach John Calipari proud, as the Tigers slowed down 6-foot-10 freshman sensation center Kevin Love and limited the Bruins to 37 percent shooting, moving on to their second championship game appearance in school history. The only other time Memphis made it to the final was in 1973, an 87-66 loss to UCLA.

Additionally, the 38 wins by the Tigers is an all-time high in NCAA Division I history. Memphis, which came into the game shooting less than 61 percent from the foul line, sealed the victory by hitting its final 11 free throws.

"We all believed in each other and we expect great things to happen," Douglas- Roberts said. "This isn't really new to us."

Russell Westbrook led the way with 22 points for the Bruins (35-4), who had won 14 straight games and were participating in their third straight Final Four, won't play for a record 12th national championship on Monday. UCLA hasn't won the title since 1995. Love scored 12 points, but just two in the second half, for the Bruins.
